Poem For A Cat
Here's for the Cats We Love
If I were a cat, what would I see?
A world happy and free!
Full of mice and bugs,
Birds, and snakes, and occasionally the stray slug.
If I were a cat, what would I hear?
Birds chirping their taunting leers?
Bees buzzing their stinging songs?
All the things for which a cat so longs.
If I were a cat, what would I taste?
The enticing favor of an Elmer's paste?
The dew on the back of a catnip leaf?
Or the bug I pounce running up a sheaf?
If I were a cat, what would I feel?
The rush of a fan as it lifts my fur like a breeze so surreal?
The dew as it washes my back like a shower?
Or the shiver I get when my whiskers brush a flower?
Now, if I were a cat, what would I smell?
The heavenly scent of the sea full of fish on which I can dwell?
The salt on my human's cheek as I lick it clean...
Or the whatever it is on my paw I can't even glean!
But if I were a cat, all those may be true, but what would I know?
For a cat is nothing but the most knowing of all those.
Anyone can see it, and know that it's true,
That mostly, what a cat knows most, is her love for you!
