2008 This bald eagle named Beauty was fitted with a remarkably life-like prosthetic beak. More than 5 years ago, she narrowly escaped a poacher after a bullet shattered her beak.

The bird was found scrounging for food and slowly starving at a landfill in Alaska. A bullet had taken from her curved upper beak, leaving her tongue and sinuses exposed, with a stump useless for grasping food
Until the prosthetic was attached, Beauty relied on human handlers to feed her, but thanks to the new beak she can again grasp her own food.
Some critics question such an extraordinary effort to save one bird that is no longer on the endangered species list. But Nate Cantwell, the engineer who spent 200 hours designing the complex beak pointed out that Beauty has the potential to breed or be a foster mother to orphaned eagles.Beauty lives in Idaho at "Birds of Prey"
