How to search
- Click the search icon in the top navigation (or the search bar on desktop).
- Type what you're looking for.
- Press Enter.
Results appear organized by relevance, so the best matches show up first.
What you can search
Search works across four types of content:
- Animals — by name, summary, details, and awards
- Owners / People — by name, bio, organization, and location
- Articles — by title, summary, content, and keywords
- Communities — by name and description
Search tips
You don't need to type the full name. Search uses prefix matching, so typing the first few letters of each word works well.
For example, typing "gol ret" will find "Golden Retriever."
Results that match the name exactly appear first, followed by partial matches.
For the full details on how search ranking works, see our Transparency page.
Filtering results
At the top of the search results page, you can filter by type: All, Animals, People, Articles, or Communities.
This is especially helpful when you already know what kind of result you're looking for. For example, if you're searching for a specific dog, click Animals to narrow things down right away.
