Why record health tests?

Health testing is the backbone of a responsible breeding program - and one of the first things informed buyers look for. Recording your results on Best In Show puts them right on the animal's public profile, where buyers and fellow breeders can see them.

Health test recording is available on every plan, including the free Hobbyist plan.

Recording a test result

From the animal's profile, open the ... menu beside Edit and choose Health testing, then fill in the Record a test result form:

  1. Pick the test type from the catalog. Tests are listed A to Z, and only the tests that apply to the animal's species are offered - see the Health Test Catalog for every test by animal.
  2. Enter the result and the test date.
  3. Choose whether the result is public (see below) and save.

You can delete a result from the same page if you made a mistake.

Public vs. private results

Each result has its own visibility toggle. Public results appear in the health panel on the animal's profile for everyone to see; private results are visible only to your storefront's members.

Most breeders make clear results public - it's great marketing. Keeping a result private can be useful while you await confirmation or record results that are only meaningful internally.

What visitors see

Public results appear in the Health testing panel on the animal's profile, grouped by category with the result and date. Buyers researching a litter can check the health history of the sire, the dam, and ancestors all in one place - another reason complete pedigrees pay off.
